Floridians to Present Attorney General Bill McCollum More Than 7,300 “Not in Our Name, Not on Our Dime” Petitions Opposing Lawsuit Against Health Reform

37 organizations representing more than half a million Floridians sign on as well

TALLAHASSEE – Health care advocates and concerned citizens will hand deliver more than 7,300 signatures on a petition along with an organizational letter representing more than half a million Floridians opposing Attorney General Bill McCollum’s lawsuit to block Florida from benefiting from federal health care reform.

WHAT: Public unveiling of 60-foot-long petition signed by more than 7,300 Floridians opposed to the use of taxpayer dollars being spent on an unjustified lawsuit filed by Attorney General Bill McCollum attempting to nullify benefits of health reform for Floridians.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 20th 11 am

WHERE: The office of Attorney General Bill McCollum (The Capitol, Plaza Level)

WHO: Spokespersons representing average Floridians who will benefit from new federal health law such as an end to pre-existing conditions, closing of the Medicare Part D donut hole, small business tax credits, and expanded coverage, including: Greg Mellowe, Policy Director for Florida CHAIN; Dr. Louis St. Petery and Linda Merrell representing the Florida Children’s Health Coalition.

The “Not in Our Name, Not on Our Dime” campaign has gained overwhelming support from Floridians across the state. The campaign, in addition to more than 7,300 petition signatures, has generated more than 5,000 Facebook fans who are appalled at efforts by the Attorney General to use this frivolous lawsuit to gain political points without consulting with the Floridians he represents.

Organizations representing the uninsured, healthcare consumers, working families, health and social service organizations, small businesses and others will be on hand to comment and deliver an organizational letter signed by 37organizations across the state representing more than half a million Floridians.
