Senator Justice Urges Congressional Delegation to Pass Jobs Bill

St. Petersburg – In response to recent reports that some on Capitol Hill are trying to derail a bill that would help hundreds of thousands of unemployed Floridians, Senator Charlie Justice (D- St. Petersburg) issued the following statement to Florida’s congressional delegation:

“Now is not the time to play politics with the pocketbooks of our struggling families. The American Jobs Act is crucial to helping those in our state find gainful employment, keep their homes and most importantly put food on the table.

“This bill will extend unemployment benefits that so many are reliant upon, and provide meaningful incentives for businesses to create jobs. Calls to my district office have doubled in the past year from those seeking assistance. We need to do all we can to provide this critical lifeline to those in need, and provide local business with the means to expand employment opportunities.

“I strongly urge all of my congressional colleagues to pass this important bill, for the sake of our constituents and the economic stability of our state. I am concerned that the non-passage of this bill will exacerbate our current budget woes. We are in desperate need of the measures this bill provides, and we should not lose sight of that in the midst of political games.”

April 16, 2012

By Jim Crochet, State Ombudsman To celebrate National Volunteer Week, I want to recognize the group of nearly 300 volunteer ombudsmen who give so much of their time and energy advocating for over 160,000 Floridians living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family-care homes. Residents in long-term care facilities represent our friends and [...]
