Thomas Chalifoux for State House of Representatives: Thomas Chalifoux Sues Horner’s 527 for Libel

August 23, 2010 Politics No Comments

(Kissimmee, FL) — Thomas Chalifoux, candidate for State House District 79, has filed a lawsuit in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court Osceola County alleging libel because incumbent Mike Horner has used a 527 shadow group for intentional defamation of character. The Mike Horner Campaign and Truth Matters, Inc. funded by special interests have sent out a mailer accusing Chalifoux of defaulting on a $200,000 mortgage and being foreclosed upon.

One problem: the story simply is not true. The records show that Chalifoux held a lien on the property and was only notified as an interested party. Chalifoux was neither the owner nor the debtor. In the lawsuit Chalifoux is asking for compensatory damages for the libel and defamation. He is looking forward to the opportunity to depose Mr. Horner.

This is just the latest example of the Horner campaign’s intentional misrepresentations in order to divert criticism of his tax and spend liberal record. Horner has voted to raise taxes by $2.2 billion, voted for Sunrail at a cost of $2.66 billion, and voted to take the Obama stimulus money at a future cost of over $18 billion.

Horner has voted to create 2 new government bureaucracies; The “Osceola Expressway Authority” and the “Florida Statewide Passenger Rail Commission.” Horner has voted for the special interests. Have you had to renew your driver’s license this year? Thank Horner for the price increase and all the extra hassle.

Horner has adopted an election strategy of accusing Chalifoux of the very thing Horner is guilty of. Horner accuses Chalifoux of being a liberal Democrat while the opposite is true. Chalifoux was a Reagan Democrat in the 80s. Horner fails to mention that he was a Bill Clinton liberal Democrat in the 90s.

During the 1990′s Horner was a staffer to two liberal Democrats. He even ran for State House as a Clinton Democrat. Horner’s voting record of tax, spend, and expand the government reflects these liberal roots.

Horner was endorsed by indicted Republican Party Chairman, Jim Greer, along with the “A” list of Tallahassee insiders. The Republican Party of Florida has contributed directly to Horner and indirectly through these 527 shadow groups. The Republican Party of Florida is taking sides in a primary and trying to re-elect a career politician at the expense of the voter.

Horner’s campaign receives over 90% of its money from special interests outside the district that have a direct stake in Tallahassee legislation. The special interests want to protect their investment. Chalifoux does not take money from the special interests. He is self-financed. Chalifoux’ only special interest is the voter.

Horner claims to be a job creator, but he only creates jobs through government expansion at a deep cost to the private sector and the taxpayers. Chalifoux is a local businessman who has met over 2000 payrolls and has created thousands of jobs in the private sector which have strengthened and expanded our local economy.

Horner will not use the words re-elect in his re-election campaign because he does not want the voters to realize he is the incumbent. Chalifoux has the support of TEA Party voters who are fed up with the career politicians in Tallahassee and Washington and want real change. Thomas Chalifoux is the true conservative in this race.

Thomas Chalifoux will hold a press conference on Monday with Larry Brown, Esq. of Brown, Garganese, Weiss, & D’Agresta, 111 N Orange Ave Suite 2000 – top floor, Orlando, FL at 11:00 AM to talk about the lawsuit and show how the special interests are laundering campaign money through 527s to protect their monetary investment in incumbent legislators like Mike Horner.
