Children In Need Receive $40,000 in Back-to-School Supplies Collected by Young Agents Council

September 1, 2010 Education No Comments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida students gearing up for another academic year have received more than $40,000 in back-to-school supplies as part of the SmartStart4Kids campaign. The campaign is a month-long, statewide back-to-school project of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) and involves dozens of members of the Young Agents Council. More than 50 insurance agencies collected supplies including pens, pencils, paper, backpacks and back-to-school clothing, which were donated to local area nonprofit organizations.

“Giving back to the community, especially to the children, is an honor for the Florida Association of Insurance Agents,” said Jeff Grady, CEO and president of FAIA. “There is nothing more important than providing students with the tools they need to be well-prepared on their first day of school. The Young Agents Council members do a great job in their efforts through the SmartStart4Kids program.”

Local insurance agencies in 11 different regions across the state teamed up to collect school supplies at their offices. The program has benefited hundreds of children, giving them a “SmartStart” back to school.

School supplies were collected in the following regions:

Tallahassee: The YAC members of Tallahassee donated $4,000 in school supplies to United Way of the Big Bend.

Jacksonville: The YAC members of Jacksonville donated $4,000 in school supplies to the I.M. Sulzbacher Center.

Orlando: The YAC members of Orlando donated $ 3,000 in school supplies to the Foundation for Foster Children.

Tampa: The YAC members of Tampa donated $11,000 in school supplies to Voices for Children.

Vero Beach: The YAC members of Vero Beach donated $3,000 in school supplies to Community Child Care Resources.

Sarasota: The YAC members of Sarasota donated $6000 in school supplies to the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota and the Salvation Army of Sarasota.

Ft. Myers: The YAC members of Ft. Myers donated $3000 in school supplies to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest of Florida.
Broward and Palm Beach Counties: The YAC members of Broward and Palm Beach Counties donated $4,000 in school supplies to Urban Youth Impact.

Miami: The YAC members of Miami donated $4,500 in school supplies to the New Jerusalem Community Development Corporation.

SmartStart4Kids is a program of FAIA’s Young Agents Council, a community for young agents that provides leadership tools and resources, such as participation in legislative issues and training for sales and management needs.

FAIA is the oldest and largest association serving Florida’s independent property and casualty agent community. It represents over 1,900 such businesses employing over 10,000 licensed producers and close to 17,000 employees. Independent agents are not employees of companies, but independent contractors usually representing numerous carriers. For more information, visit www.faia.com.
