House Energy & Utilities Subcommittee Hears Presentations on Energy
Tallahassee, Fla. – The House Energy & Utilities Subcommittee today held its fourth meeting exploring energy-related issues of concern to Florida’s citizens in its ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive energy policy for Florida. The subcommittee heard presentations from Florida State University on modernizing Florida’s electric grid and the potential benefits of developing a smart grid, as well as presentations from professors from Duke University and the Georgia Institute of Technology on renewable energy. In addition, the subcommittee heard proposals from a variety of providers of both conventional and renewable energy resources.
“I’d like to thank the various groups that presented before this committee today,” said Representative Clay Ford (R-Pensacola), chairman of the House Energy & Utilities Subcommittee. “It’s critical that we hear from a variety of stakeholders and carefully examine our state’s energy policy in an effort to guarantee that we adopt comprehensive measures that will benefit our state’s citizens.”
“The Florida House is dedicated to ensuring that any energy plan proposed and adopted by the legislature addresses the needs and concerns of Floridians,” said Representative Seth McKeel (R-Lakeland), chairman of the House State Affairs Committee. “Energy plays a significant role in the day-to-day lives of Floridians, and it is our responsibility to ensure Florida has a common-sense energy policy that fosters long-term economic prosperity and is affordable and reliable for Florida’s citizens.”
“These presentations to the House Energy & Utilities Subcommittee are a continuation of the House’s deliberative approach to developing a comprehensive energy policy for Florida,” said Representative McKeel. “And, I look forward to hearing further discussion on our state’s energy sector as we consider adopting a comprehensive energy policy during the upcoming legislative session.”
