House Appropriations Committee Passes Bills to Expand School Choice and Access to a Customized Education

April 15, 2011 Education, Government No Comments

Tallahassee – The Foundation for Florida’s future applauds Rep. Stargel and the members of the House Appropriations Committee for their commitment to expanding access to high quality charter schools and providing students with a customized education by passing HB 7195 and HB 7197.

“Today is a great day for Florida’s families,” said Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future. “HB 7195 and HB 7197 will expand school choice for parents and students by providing innovative and high-quality educational options. A decade ago, the idea of providing every student in Florida with a customized education was just a dream. Today, that dream can become reality. I thank Rep. Stargel and House leadership for their commitment to empower students to pursue a quality education that best fits their learning style.”

HB 7195 recognizes exceptional charter schools and removes barriers to entry, allowing them to meet the growing demand of parents seeking choices in public education and providing our students with the quality education options they deserve. HB 7197 integrates technology and digital learning into our education environment to equip teachers and parents to customize education for each and every student in the Sunshine State.

Florida has dramatically improved the quality of education in public schools during the past decade, but our work is far from finished. These House initiatives move Florida further down the path of improving education. The Foundation looks forward to continuing to work with members of the Florida Legislature to continue our success.
