Speaker Cannon Comments on Patriot Day and the 10th Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks

September 10, 2011 Government No Comments

Tallahassee–Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon (R-Winter Park) today commented on Patriot Day and the 10th Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks.

“Ten years ago, during the aftermath of one of the most heinous attacks in the history of our nation, we witnessed a phenomenon that became the terrorists’ worst nightmare. In the face of unimaginable devastation, we saw a unique surge in patriotism, a renewed sense of pride in our nation, and a special feeling of community. We proved that the faith and sprit of the American people cannot be broken.

“On Sunday, as we remember those we lost and pray for the safety of the brave men and women still fighting the global war on terror at home and abroad, it is my hope that we also mark this important anniversary by reflecting on the enduring strength and spirit of our nation.

“The freedom to live, work and raise a family as an American is an experience unique to any other group of people in the history of the world. In the ten years since September 11, 2001, we have demonstrated to the world that we will not be defeated, and we will preserve this special way of life for generations to come.”
