Statement by Rep. Cynthia Stafford Regarding Presidential Primary Date
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Representative Cynthia Stafford (D-Miami) issued the following statement about today’s meeting of the Presidential Preference Primary Date Selection Committee:
“At House Speaker Dean Cannon’s request, I accepted appointment to the primary date selection committee even though I voted against the bill that established the committee and my continuing belief that the committee is unnecessary.
“Both the Republican and Democratic national committees have agreed to a calendar, a set of rules, and a process for setting a primary date. I think Florida needs to follow the rules that both political parties agreed to, which means conducting a presidential primary on March 6 or later.”
