Securing Florida’s Energy Future

February 7, 2012 News Advisories No Comments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda will be joined by Lieutenant General John Castellaw, USMC Ret., local veterans, and renewable energy advocates for a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 outside the House Chamber on the fourth floor of the Capitol. General Castellaw will be discussing the efforts of the United States military to move the U.S. ahead in renewable energy, conservation, and efficiency, not only on the battlefront but also at home. The press conference will focus on the need to promote investment in renewable energy as well as commitment to energy conservation and efficiency measures.

“The Joint Chiefs of Staff have understood the importance of renewable energy to our national security. They have adopted the principles of energy conservation with the same level of dedication that our country demonstrated in the war effort of World War II. It is time that our civilian leaders also adopted sustainable energy policy with that same fervor. For the same reasons that this nation accepted sacrifice as the price of victory during World War II, we must now adopt emerging sustainable energy technology if we are to see the 21st century be the American Century,” said Rehwinkel Vasilinda.

The press conference will also address our state’s need to adopt real, meaningful conservation and efficiency practices. “Beyond energy production, we should also be the leader in energy conservation and efficiency. Making our homes and businesses more energy efficient is the best and cheapest way to reduce our need for energy and bring down our utility bills,” said Rehwinkel Vasilinda.

The details for the press conference are as follows:

WHEN: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
