FCASV Statement on Governor Scott Signing HB 1355
FCASV commends Governor Scott for signing legislation today to protect Florida’s most vulnerable victims of sexual violence.
Executive Director Jennifer Dritt noted:
“With the signing of HB 1355 today, Governor Scott strengthens our work to ensure that survivors are safe, that those who prey on children are held accountable, and that as a state we take responsibility for reporting all sexual abuse of children. FCASV applauds our sponsors Rep. Chris Dorworth (R-Heathrow) and Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Wellington) and supporters Ron and Lauren Book and Senator Ronda Storms (R-Brandon) for their tenacity in advocating for victims.”
HB 1355 includes relocation assistance for victims of sexual assault, increased penalties for those prostituting or purchasing the services of prostituted children, stronger child abuse reporting requirements, and new accountability measures for colleges and universities regarding reporting child abuse.
