PSC Chairman Ronald A. Brisé Participates in Panel on Florida’s Energy Future
TALLAHASSEE — Covering energy career education choices to what affects electric rates, today’s panel, “Electricity Matters: Redefining Florida’s Energy Future,” helped minorities and young adults learn about the energy industry. Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Ronald A. Brisé participated on the virtual panel sponsored by the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and Politic365.
“Helping consumers, including those who are historically disadvantaged, to better understand the energy industry and how it affects them is important to better manage their energy future,” said Chairman Brisé. “Students learned about opportunities in the energy field and others attending or listening learned about today’s rapidly changing energy sources.”
To facilitate student interest in the regulatory and energy fields, Chairman Brisé introduced a possible PSC shadowing program that allows students to observe Commissioners and engineers performing their daily job duties. Moderated by Jeff Johnson, MSNBC contributor and Politic365 Executive Editor, panel participants also included J.R. Kelly, Florida’s Public Counsel; Brenda Buchan, Office of Energy, Department of Agriculture; Dale Landry, President, NAACP; and David K. Owens, Vice President of Business Operations, Edison Electric Institute.
The virtual town hall also featured Dr. Simon Foo, Chair, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering; Rick Meeker, Jr., P.E., Project Lead, Sunshine State Solar Grid Initiative; and Dr. Steinar Dale, Director, Center for Advanced Power Systems. Politic365 live-streamed the panel discussion on its Web site, which is dedicated to politics and policy related to communities of color.
