Senate Democratic Leader to Governor Rick Scott: “Stop Wasting Taxpayer Dollars on Continuing Voter Purge”

June 7, 2012 Government No Comments

TALLAHASSEE – Appalled by the announcement late Wednesday that he may place taxpayers once again at risk in order to fight an opinion he doesn’t like, Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich (D-Weston) issued the following statement:

“I call on Governor Scott and, should she be equally inclined, Attorney General Pam Bondi, to stop wasting the taxpayers’ money on a voter purge that has managed to put two World War II veterans unnecessarily under attack – along with hundreds of others whose voting rights have been questioned – but yielded little in the way of evidence of the massive voter fraud they claim they’re trying to prevent.

“Our Republican governor has established a troubling pattern that not only flaunts the duties he took an oath to uphold, but belies the trust he holds as steward of taxpayer money.

“Since taking office, we’ve seen an unfortunate repetition of his having trouble taking “no” for an answer whenever he runs into the realities of a democracy. Unfortunately, he’s not using his own money to do this; he’s using the dwindling resources of taxpayers to prove his point. And, as we’ve repeatedly seen, that “point” has often been wrong.

“Governor Scott needs to pay more attention to the affairs of our struggling economy rather than trying to stack the outcome of an election. The fight should be for the people, not against them.”
