What Others are Saying about Florida’s Victory in the Fight to Stop Non-Citizens from Voting

Governor Scott and the Florida Department of State have been requesting access to the federal SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database since August 2011. It contains information that could protect the integrity of our elections and ensure that non-citizens are not illegally registered to vote in our state. The Obama Administration has stonewalled for nearly a year, denying access to the database even after our officials discovered over 100 illegal, non-citizen voters on Florida’s voter rolls. But Governor Scott’s dedication to stopping illegal, non-citizen voters has paid off. Last weekend, the Obama administration was forced to give Florida access to the database. In case you missed it, here’s what the media said about Florida’s good news:

“It took about a year, but Florida has prevailed upon the federal government to help the state conduct fair and fraud-free elections.” –Daytona Beach News-Journal Editorial, 7/17/2012

http://www.news-journalonline.com/opinion/editorials/n-j-editorials/2012/07/17/feds-finally-help-florida-in-fighting-voter-fraud.html [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001Q3Zuyv2QDnDvlmhSLVsMFXYumem5GZAWg3p0f82ATF_4XyLM3jQzmOCEYibhdr2PUYLEkhSUe54zSfLU_tagYcLlJQcOmQPJea5MmrHR9J8oSRX5_Ig4COsuMOxjeM5P9YfLDOFKGPzXMCQiSpbO37zjQnHlsbNVO5w-ossPfNYfU1xXBVgMUq3a7wKnYOQUhHRqy9dAKaWi8XMLPjWSC2sA838tSBRGl8LxlacTwWQ3Fvo0BWX30DtSNlEhtxUat-wwTOYwA28xNcG1jeLz9w==]

“The Miami Herald portrays this as a “victory for Republicans,” but it’s really a bipartisan victory for everyone who wants clean elections in the United States.”

–John Hayward, Human Events 7/16/2012

http://www.humanevents.com/2012/07/16/florida-finally-gains-access-to-federal-data-for-voter-registration-cleanup/ [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001Q3Zuyv2QDnByekqaXCKu1jcXNvyYhnIth7iLT5BaLf-HMYtIkaiNFEV1utzWf8GfQYacXUwT5ranP4iY6CF7QamLtgml6yB7ECR4l-m-3C0xHxXHN5hpj-DrWOjtbY1ibtUzNg8-J0QcMHB-yR7L-d3EeM-0JbP6JdvmxnQrm5s5PerPejidXbFzX_J8735KfBvDBKMrBywDCobe9LGlql3PjMDIv2QkK0JXPSXilq9xn5BGv58zAg==]

“Gov. Rick Scott scored a major victory over the weekend when the federal government agreed to give Florida access to a database to check the legal status of voters suspected of not being U.S. citizens, so they can be purged from state voter rolls…The governor for months has been arguing that the state has many noncitizens on its voter rolls. The names must be removed to ensure the list of registered voters is accurate, and that elections aren’t tainted by improper votes.”

–Panama City News Herald Editorial, 7/16/2012

“This is a big win.”

–Erick Erickson, RedState, 7/16/2012

http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/07/16/rick-scott-wins-2/ [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001Q3Zuyv2QDnDKj9Oz1vza9NjoruKWuss8KiRzLu2mfA3XFBlGZBA3Rcw_Qu-QD5tAyC0L7q7xOBWNXdrkHlVZ01DKX1ZQK4EQGRzgtNzKs5MEPM8pdamChDaL9rdmoQ8fMj7X9P5Q9kNbq5gmAxyb4d55FEFr2D2Bs8nz5uhcxiFneoqMMXSIzg==]

“Deliberate fraud and the participation of ineligible voters diminish the value of each citizen’s vote. Florida should take steps to maintain the integrity of its own voter rolls. It was right for the Department of Homeland Security to allow the state to use the SAVE database to cross-check its information.”

–Daytona Beach News-Journal Editorial, 7/17/2012

“The news is a victory for Republican Gov. Rick Scott, who has said the purge is necessary to guarantee fair elections.”

–Steve Bousquet, The Miami Herald, 7/14/2012

“The decision is a victory for Republican officials in Florida and many other key swing states who say they are trying to prevent voter fraud.” –Meghashyam Mali , The Hill, 7/15/2012 http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/237937-administration-grants-fla-access-to-database-to-verify-voter-rolls [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001Q3Zuyv2QDnDn1wKrrt8C1Vp3JPodxG8mCTwUD7eL4VC4HxxLlEZ_on7NaC3XwdDXnZmWy6p3JCRLj7j6qX5n2ASvQvzmPnqMzpzHXWS2-NE1WAVkj5MGq2GmiI_uYNlA2tyuTbbfGcUuqrAzz54Q4weh6z5F0NkCCgl6TIaYJAi4CjQo00AoZVGENzowFw-3JZjQ5BZ4HCIHPtO9ahkqNY-OWEXFjEd94DvkB3iKmmo-lqIONnbz1fTNX88w7c8B]

“Florida Gov. Rick Scott scored a political victory Saturday in a year-long dispute with the Obama administration over Florida’s right to purge illegal and ineligible voters.”

–Larry Clifton, Examiner.com, 7/14/2012

http://www.examiner.com/article/gov-rick-scott-handed-victory-illegal-voter-purge [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001Q3Zuyv2QDnDn1wKrrt8C1Vp3JPodxG8mCTwUD7eL4VC4HxxLlEZ_on7NaC3XwdDXnZmWy6p3JCRLj7j6qX5n2ASvQvzmPnqMzpzHXWS2-NE1WAVkj5MGq2GmiI_uYNlA2tyuTbbfGcUuqrAzz54Q4weh6z5F0NkCCgl6TIaYJAi4CjQo00AoZVGENzowFw-3JZjQ5BZ4HCIHPtO9ahkqNY-OWEXFjEd94DvkB3iKmmo-lqIONnbz1fTNX88w7c8B]

“This is a positive development, but it happened only because Florida stood up to Department of Justice threats and was willing to sue the administration. DHS, which had resisted providing Florida with citizenship status information for more than a year in violation of federal law, capitulated only after the lawsuit was filed.”
