***MEDIA ADVISORY*** “Got Power?” Coalition To Host Early Vote March & Rally Event will encourage voter participation in the Primary Election

WHAT: A coalition comprised of organizations representing the civic, faith, student and labor communities will gather for a march and rally to encourage voter participation in this year’s Primary Election. Due to Florida’s 2011 elections law, Leon County residents will have fewer days to vote early than in previous years. This event was organized to increase voter turnout and mobilize “souls to the polls” on a popular early voting day — Sunday. Immediately after the rally, participants will be able to cast their Primary Election ballots at the Leon County Courthouse. WHERE: The march will begin at the First Presbyterian Church (110 N. Adams Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301), and will end at the Leon County Courthouse (301 S. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301). WHEN: 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2012 WHO: The organizations involved in the initiative (listed in alphabetical order) are: AFL-CIO Big Bend Labor Chapter, Allpower Worldwide, Exclusive Visions, FAMU Social Work Association of Graduate Students (SWAGS), First Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee, Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA), Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Florida Justice Association, Florida National Organization for Women (FL NOW), League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVF), Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office, Living Stones International, New Birth Tabernacle of Praise, New Life United Methodist Church, SEIU 1199, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP, Tallahassee Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (TIMA) and Tallahassee Interfaith Clergy. MEDIA INTERVIEWS: To schedule media interviews after the event, please contact Jabari Paul.
