Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater Announces Contract Images Added to Florida Accountability Contract Tracking System – FACTS
TALLAHASSEE – Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today announced that the five highest-dollar-amount contracts from each state agency have been added to the Florida Accountability Contract Tracking System – FACTS. In June, CFO Atwater launched the first-of-its-kind, comprehensive, online tool that offers Floridians greater visibility into how their government is doing business.
“Adding the images of the top five contracts from each state agency is another important step toward our larger goal of providing a system that increases efficiency and accountability in state contracting and provides the groundwork for posting all state agency contract images online next year,” CFO Atwater said.
In 2011, the Legislature and Gov. Scott solidified their commitment to transparency and agency contract reporting by passing and signing Senate Bill 2096, championed by CFO Atwater, which required the CFO’s office to create a state contract management system that was easily accessible to the public.
At a press conference launching FACTS in June, CFO Atwater announced that all contract images from the Department of Financial Services, which he oversees, had been loaded into the system and that he would be asking for the five highest-dollar-amount contracts from each state agency to be posted online.
“I have been impressed by the responsiveness of state agencies to participate in this critical initiative for Florida’s taxpayers,” CFO Atwater said. “Their dedication to this process shows a commitment to greater transparency across state government.”
The FACTS system is just the first step in CFO Atwater’s goal to make state contracting more efficient and transparent. CFO Atwater plans to incorporate contract audit findings into the FACTS system this fall for Floridians to determine how well state government establishes and manages contracts. Additionally, FACTS will include images of all state agency contracts next year.
