Former U.S. Senator Bob Graham Headlines “Funding Our Future” Research Symposium for League’s Center for Municipal Research and Innovation

Tallahassee – The Florida League of Cities Center for Municipal Research and Innovation today announced that former U.S. Senator Bob Graham will headline the group’s inaugural research symposium. The “Funding Our Future” research symposium is a half-day event focused on municipal revenues and trends.

The August 22 symposium, which will bring together elected officials, administrators and academic experts, gives local governments a unique opportunity to plan for their future by addressing how research, statistics and trends can be used to strategically deal with municipal issues.

“The Center for Municipal Research and Innovation’s ‘Funding Our Future’ symposium provides the perfect opportunity for city officials to hear directly from researchers on revenue trends and forecasts,” said former U.S. Senator Bob Graham, who also served the people of Florida for eight years as Governor. “This collaboration gives city officials direct access to data and resources that can help them improve the financial future of their city.”

Along with a thought-provoking assessment by Senator Graham, the symposium will feature workshops discussing current economic impacts and future revenue trends and implications. Acclaimed national and state experts will lead the workshops, including:

• Amy Baker, coordinator of the Florida Office of Economic & Demographic Research;
• Dr. Edwin Benton, professor of political science and public administration at the University of South Florida;
• Dr. James Dewey, program director, Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Florida;
• Dr. Chris Hoene, director of the Center on Research and Innovation, National League of Cities;
• Bob Inzer, Leon County clerk of court; and
• Mickey Miller, former chief financial officer for the City of Jacksonville and the City of Orlando.

The symposium will take place at:

8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
August 22, 2012
Westin Diplomat Resort
3555 S. Ocean Drive
Hollywood, Florida

The League’s Center for Municipal Research and Innovation is a central source of local government research and tools to create, collect and facilitate local government-focused research throughout Florida.
