PSC Commissioner Julie Brown Shares Civic Experience with Washington Center Interns

TALLAHASSEE – Few college students probably venture, “I’m going to be a public utility commissioner someday,” but Florida Public Service Commissioner Julie Brown-a proud alumna of The Washington Center (TWC)-will relate some of her career experiences, which includes being a Commissioner, to TWC participants attending the Republican National Convention Seminar.

The TWC program coincides with the Convention in Tampa, Commissioner Brown’s hometown, and she will speak during the orientation beginning at 9:30 a.m., August 19, at the Hillsborough Community College-Ybor Campus.

“TWC allowed me to see our government in action and provided a broader view of our country’s cultural, social, political, and economic landscapes,” said Commissioner Brown. “This experience, in part, led me to choose a career in public service, first in Tampa and now as a Florida Public Service Commissioner. I look forward to encouraging TWC participants to engage in the political process and to use their leadership skills in effecting change for their communities.”

TWC is the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country. It brings together exceptional and dedicated college students, civic, governmental and business leaders, hundreds of colleges and universities, scores of public and private host organizations (or internship sites), and more than 50,000 alumni. Founded in 1975, TWC is a unique educational center based on a fully integrated mix of professional experience, academic coursework and real-life challenges.
