EDGEWATER MAN WINS $1 MILLION PRIZE IN BILLION DOLLAR BLOCKBUSTER GAME

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Lottery announces that James Mahoney, of Edgewater, claimed a $1 million prize in the BILLION DOLLAR BLOCKBUSTER Scratch-Off game at Florida Lottery headquarters. This marks the 46th winner to claim a $1 million prize in this popular Scratch-Off game; 74 $1 million prizes remain.

Mahoney chose the one-time, lump-sum payment option for his winnings in the amount of $650,000.The winning ticket was purchased at Publix, located at 2970 South Ridgewood in Edgewater.

The $20 Scratch-Off game, BILLION DOLLAR BLOCKBUSTER, offers the highest cash payout of any game in Florida Lottery history. The game launched on February 24, 2009, and includes more than $1 billion in prizes, including 10 top prizes of $10 million. Six of 10 top prizes still remain. To date, the game has awarded more than $401 million in prizes. The overall odds of winning are one in 2.98.

The Florida Lottery offers approximately 60 Scratch-Off games at any given time through instant ticket vending machines or on-counter displays at more than 13,000 retailers statewide. Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, making up approximately 58 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $495 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2011-12.
