Florida League of Cities 86th Annual Conference Brings Together Local Officials for Education and Sharing Best Practices
TALLAHASSEE – More than 700 delegates from across Florida are scheduled to attend the Florida League of Cities 86th Annual Conference this week in Hollywood, Florida. In celebration of the Florida League of Cities’ 90th anniversary, the annual conference will provide attending municipal officials with vital educational and peer sharing opportunities that will help improve communities throughout Florida.
Florida League of Cities’ members recognize that the level of government closest to the people can best reflect the needs of individual communities. With a theme of “FLC University: A Commitment to Lifelong Learning,” the conference will feature 15 workshops covering topics ranging from citizen engagement, leadership and revenue options to foreclosed property and economic development. The conference will provide an array of critical information on best practices available for local leaders to learn and bring back home.
“We are proud of the learning opportunities the conference provides attendees,” said Altamonte Springs Mayor Pat Bates, president of the Florida League of Cities. “The Florida League of Cities is strongly committed to promoting lifelong learning, and providing educational resources to cities has been my top priority as president.”
Featured speakers at the conference include John Avlon, a senior columnist for Newsweek and the Daily Beast who is the author of Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics; author Peter Kageyama, an internationally recognized expert on community development and grassroots engagement; and National League of Cities President Ted Ellis, mayor of Bluffton, Indiana.
