Third Annual Florida Water Forum Addresses Water Management Districts, Numeric Nutrient Criteria and Consumptive Use Permitting
TALLAHASSEE – Hosted by Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) and the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA), the 2012 Florida Water Forum will address Florida’s water crisis and critical issues impacting Florida’s water future. Set for Sep. 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Renaissance SeaWorld in Orlando, the third annual Florida Water Forum will feature a legislative panel reviewing recent and upcoming water legislation, information on the restructured Water Management Districts, Numeric Nutrient Criteria update and presentation on consumptive use permitting consistency.

2012 Florida Water Forum presentations include:
* A panel discussion featuring Rep. Steve Crisafulli (R-Merritt Island), Rep. Steve Perman (D-Boca Raton), Rep. Elizabeth Porter (R-Lake City) and Rep. Dana Young (R-Tampa), which will review new reclaimed water legislation, use of agriculture lands for water storage, Water Management Districts inter-agency cooperation and water issues to be addressed during the 2013 Legislative Session.
* Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel Vinyard will reveal the budget and new look of the Water Management Districts.
* A Numeric Nutrient Criteria update featuring Sen. Chris Smith (D-Oakland Park) via video, Drew Bartlett (Florida Department of Environmental Protection), David Childs (Hopping Green & Sams), John Urbanchuk (Cardno Entrix) and Paul Steinbrecher (JEA Utilities).
* Concluding the day will be Florida Department of Environmental Protection Deputy Secretary Greg Munson to address consumptive use permitting consistency.
“Florida is in the midst of a water crisis. Increasingly scare groundwater supplies have been exacerbated by burdensome and unscientifically based regulations, acrimonious litigation, challenges to water management district permits, restrictions on new economic development, and in some areas, a continued decline in natural resources,” said Rick Ratcliffe, Chair of the FSAWWA. “An unstable water future will ultimately wreak havoc on Florida’s economy and environment. We are honored to work with AIF to host this forum and, together, help identify solutions that will ensure the availability of safe, sustainable and affordable water resources.”
