Governor Scott Announces Eighth Class of Gubernatorial Fellows

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the members of the eighth class of the Gubernatorial Fellows Program. Students participating in the program will gain first-hand experience in state government.

“I applaud these students for their outstanding academic, leadership and service-oriented accomplishments,” said Governor Scott. “This program will provide them with on-the-job leadership training for successful careers in the public or private sector.”

Students were selected based on a competitive application process and their ability to show strong leadership, written and oral communication skills, community activism, and a desire to serve the people of Florida. They will work in the Executive Office of the Governor or in the Governor’s agencies, depending on their area of study.

Fellows will be expected to work a minimum of 20 hours each week and will receive an hourly wage for their time on the job. To broaden the Fellows’ exposure to state government and enhance their experience, they will also meet weekly as a group to participate in educational activities such as presentations, press conferences, budget briefings and policy briefings.

The following 12 students have been selected as the eighth Gubernatorial Fellows class:

* Christin “Cici” Battle, 23, of Miami, is a graduate student in higher education administration at Florida International University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida International University.

* Kemarr Brown, 25, of Miami by way of Kingston, Jamaica, is a graduate student in international administration at the University of Miami. She holds a master’s degree in human rights law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Thomas University.

* Keturah Brown, 21, of Jacksonville, is a graduate student in public administration at Florida State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in African American studies and political science from Florida State University.

* Christopher Emmanuel, 24, of Tallahassee, is a second-year law student at Florida State University College of Law. He holds bachelor’s degrees in history and political science from the University of Florida.

* Jacob Horner, 23, of Sanford, is a graduate student in public administration at Florida State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and international affairs from Florida State University.

* Adam Kramarow, 24, of Boca Raton, is a third-year law student at Florida State University College of Law. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and political science from Florida State University. * Margaret Sanders, 22, of Dalton, Georgia, is a graduate student in public administration at Florida State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Florida.

* Carter Scott, 24, of Columbia, South Carolina, is a second-year law student at Florida State University College of Law. He holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College.

* Sara Whitney Smith, 24, of Tallahassee, is a third-year law student at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She holds a bachelor’s degree in food and resource economics from the University of Florida.

* Samantha Stratton, 22, of Tampa, is a graduate student in public administration at the University of South Florida. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Florida.

* Prayut Alexander Therathanakorn, 28, of Weston, is a third-year law student at Florida State University College of Law. He holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and government from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in accounting from Nova Southeastern University. * Katherine Walton, 28, of South Ponte Vedra, is a second-year law student at Florida State University College of Law. She holds bachelor’s degrees in corporate communications and public affairs from Southern Methodist University.

Fellows began work on August 13, 2012, and will conclude their placements on May 10, 2013. Students are enrolled in classes at Florida State University in Tallahassee or through distance-learning courses provided by their home institutions.
