Pembroke Pines Mayor Ortis Selected as Florida League of Mayors President-Elect

Tallahassee, Fla. – Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis has been elected president-elect of the Florida League of Mayors for the 2012-13 term. Ortis has served as mayor since 2004 after holding a seat on the Pembroke Pines City Commission beginning in 1996.

“Mayors work every day to help citizens address the most pressing concerns within their communities – people turn to their mayor when they need help,” said Mayor Ortis. “It is a tremendous honor to be selected for a leadership role in an organization whose members guide governments closest to the people of Florida.”

As president-elect, Mayor Ortis stands next in line to take the helm of the mayors’ organization after the term of newly installed President Gow Fields, mayor of Lakeland. The Florida League of Mayors also elected new members to its 21-member Board of Directors, responsible for governing the organization. The new members of the Board are:

Mayor Adam Berringer, City of New Smyrna Beach
Mayor Randall Henderson, City of Fort Myers; and
Mayor Rocky Randels, Mayor, Cape Canaveral.
The Florida League of Mayors is a leadership organization developed by mayors for mayors. The Florida League of Mayors provides members with the ability to explore areas of mutual concern and opportunity. Since 2004, Mayor Ortis has served as Chair of the Legislative Growth Management Broward County School Oversight Committee. He was President of the Broward League of Cities for 2005-2006, and was honored by the Florida League of Cities by receiving the Cities of Excellence Mayor of the Year Award in 2006. That same year he was elected to serve on the United States Conference of Mayors Advisory Board. Mayor Ortis was elected to the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities in November 2007, and one year later was a member of Leadership Florida.
