CFO Atwater Hosts Free Tax Guide Webinar for Florida’s Small Businesses

TALLAHASSEE- As part of his Your Money Matters initiative, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced today that the Department of Financial Services is teaming up with the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) to offer “Tax Facts: A Guide for Small Business Owners.” This free webinar will provide practical and useful information to help small businesses focus on year-end tax planning strategies and comes on the heels of the CFO’s successful Small Business Leadership forum in September.

“Small businesses, which employ four out of five Floridians, play an integral role in our state’s economic recovery,” CFO Atwater said, who hosted a Small Business Leadership Forum in Tampa last month. “I am committed to supporting our small business owners by connecting them to resources that could help minimize their tax burdens.”

“CPAs are trusted advisors to thousands of Florida small businesses,” FICPA CEO Deborah Curry said. “Providing this tax strategy education to our state’s small business owners is just one more way that our members help the communities in which they live and work.”

The webinar will be offered at 2 p.m. on Oct. 16, at 12 p.m. on Oct.18, and at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 23. The focus of the session will be on year-end tax planning strategies for small businesses. An overview of key tax law provisions that affect businesses today will be discussed along with opportunities for lowering expenses, making needed capital improvements and examining potential impacts of health insurance changes and the expiration of tax cuts.
