Orlando Event Will Highlight Employment of Floridians with Disabilities

ORLANDO—A special event on Friday, October 12, will bring job seekers
with disabilities together with employers who are interested in hiring
workers with disabilities. The Second Annual Employee Awards Luncheon will
be the kickoff event for Central Florida’s observances of Disability
Mentoring Day (DMD) and Disability Employment Awareness Month. Workers
with disabilities who have been employed for at least one year will be
presented with Employee Awards. The employers and supervisors of the
honorees are invited to attend. The luncheon will be held from 9 a.m.
until 12 noon at the Marks Street Senior Center, 99 East Marks Street, in

The event is sponsored by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD),
Vocational Rehabilitation, the Employment Network of Central Florida, and
more than a dozen partner organizations. It will provide job seekers with
disabilities and employers with the opportunity to experience job shadowing
and hands-on career exploration, preparing them for the one-day internships
that will be conducted as DMD is observed in Central Florida throughout
October. The event will conclude with a complementary lunch.
