Weekly Radio Address, October 12, 2012
Hi, this is Governor Rick Scott. I am always happy to congratulate companies creating jobs in Florida. Earlier this week, Univision chose to launch their new 24 hour news channel in Florida. Univision already has nearly 3,000 employees in the Sunshine State. It is great news to hear that they will hire more Floridians from our talented workforce.
Univision’s choice to continue to expand in Florida is further proof that we are doing the right things to attract and retain business. The creation of nearly 350 new jobs will further elevate Florida’s position as a leader in job creation. More importantly, it ensures 350 more families in Florida will be able to pursue their dreams right here in our state. In addition to the new jobs, Univision is investing $274 million in a facility that will house the network. This will make a substantial impact in Miami and its surrounding areas.
Everyone knows about my goal of creating 700,000 jobs in seven years. Every single job we create puts us toward that goal and helps families in our state. In less than two years we have already seen more than 150,000 private sector jobs created in Florida – with 28,000 jobs created in August alone. Florida also leads the nation with the largest decrease in unemployment since December 2010.
I want every Floridian who wants a job, to get a job. Announcements like Univision’s help us achieve that goal and I look forward to continuing to welcome more companies to our great state.
