PSC Chairman Ronald Brisé Presents Keynote Address at Relay Conference

TALLAHASSEE — Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Ronald A. Brisé today emphasized the PSC’s commitment to providing telecommunications relay service to Florida’s three million hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind, and speech impaired residents, as he addressed the National Association for State Relay Administration (NASRA) Conference in Lake Buena Vista.

“Almost 16 percent of Florida’s population can benefit from some form of relay service, and it is our responsibility to meet the needs of these Florida citizens,” said Chairman Brisé.

Chairman Brisé also highlighted the AT&T Miami Relay Center opening in August. The new call center facilitates telephone calls between people with hearing loss or speech disabilities and other individuals.

“In addition to the 44 jobs it created for the state, 75 percent of Florida’s telecommunications relay service will be handled though this new call center,” said Chairman Brisé. “The center helps ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, and speech-impaired community.”

The NASRA conference, held for the first time in Florida this year, is a platform for national and international organizations to discuss policies, new ideas, and outreach for telecommunications relay services.
