Weekly Radio Address, October 24, 2012
Hi, this is Governor Rick Scott. There is no doubt that Florida’s economy is headed in the right direction. While we still have a long way to go, Florida has had the largest drop in unemployment in the country since December 2010.
In that same amount of time, Florida has added almost 160,000 private-sector jobs. We are doing the right things in Florida to make sure our private-sector continues to grow. Median housing prices are up, and consumer confidence is at a five-year high. The number of online job postings has also increased as more and more companies grow and expand in our state.
In fact, according to a recent economic estimating conference, Florida is expected to create almost a million new jobs by 2018. I want to also congratulate the Destin-metropolitan area. Their September unemployment rate of 5.9 percent is the lowest among the state’s 22 metro areas. This is all great news for Florida, and I will continue to work every day to grow jobs and opportunities for Florida families.
