STATE REGULATORY AGENCY HOSTS FINANCIAL CRIMES CONFERENCE FOR REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) today hosted its first Real Estate Financial Crimes Conference aimed at highlighting the importance of the role of real estate and appraiser professionals in ensuring the integrity of real estate transactions. More than 150 real estate and appraisal professionals attended the professional development conference and honed their skills on how to recognize financial crimes, ultimately protecting Florida’s consumers.

“Real estate and appraiser professionals have a responsibility to protect and inform their customers when it comes to real estate transactions,” said Secretary Ken Lawson. “I believe today’s conference is not only timely and relevant, it is also vital to Florida’s economy.”

The conference included keynote speakers from the U.S. Attorney’s office, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Carlton Fields, P.A. who provided case studies of financial crimes relating to real estate transactions. Additionally, continuing education credits from DBPR, the Florida Bar and the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists are available to the professionals who attended the conference.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The Department licenses and regulates more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from hotels and restaurants, real estate agents and certified public accountants to veterinarians, contractors and cosmetologists.
