Smart Justice Alliance to Unveil Historic Agreement for Adult Civil Citations

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Smart Justice Alliance will hold a news conference at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, to announce a historic agreement introducing the concept of Adult Civil Citations to Florida. The process will provide law enforcement officers the discretion to issue citations to first-time non-violent misdemeanor offenders, thereby sparing them an arrest record that could affect them for life while freeing authorities to focus on more serious crime.

The initiative, which will have statewide impact, will be launched in Leon County and be followed by others around the state. Leaders of the criminal justice community, ranging from law enforcement and prosecutors to public defenders and service providers, will attend the news conference in support of the Adult Civil Citation initiative.
