Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys Hosts Public Forum in Orlando
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–The Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys
will host a public forum on Friday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at
the Hilton Orlando, located at 6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, Fla. The
purpose of the public forum is to hear from community leaders and the
public on issues and concerns affecting black men and boys.
The Council’s next business meeting will be on Thursday, Nov. 15, in
Orlando. The purpose of the business meeting is to develop an action plan
that will complement the Council’s operational plan. All meetings are open
to the public.
The Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys is administratively
housed within the Attorney General’s Office. Created by the Legislature
during the 2006 Legislative Session, the Council is charged with studying
the conditions affecting black men and boys, including: homicide rates,
arrest and incarceration rates, poverty, violence, drug abuse, death rates,
disparate annual income levels, health issues and school performance.
