.
This year the Scholarship awards and ceremony were particularly touching since we did not have our beloved Honorable Margarita Esquiroz with us. She passed away early this year leaving a huge void in CABA and CABF. She was the first Cuban American female judge in Florida and dedicated her professional career helping others, especially through CABA. Even in her passing, she could not forget CABA and donations were made to her named scholarship. The Honorable Margarita Esquiroz Scholarship was established in 2008 in her honor, along with the Osvaldo Soto Scholarship, under the CABA Presidency of Marlene Quintana.

Founded in Miami in 1974, CABA is a voluntary bar association established to promote equality of its members; serve the public interest by increasing awareness to the study of jurisprudence; foster respect for the law; preserve high standards of integrity, honor, and professional courtesy among its peers; provide equal access to and adequate representation of minorities before the courts; facilitate the administration of justice; build close relationships among its members; support Miami-Dade’s indigent community and increasing diversity in the judiciary and legal community. Founded a decade or so later, CABF is the scholarship arm of the CABA and has endowed or awarded close to a million dollars in scholarships.
