~ Huge POWERBALL® jackpot spikes sales and growth in other products ~
TALLAHASSEE – Strengthened by the highest POWERBALL® jackpot in history, the Florida Lottery broke all-time sales records for daily, weekly and November sales.
Wednesday, November 28, marked the highest amount of one-day sales in the history of the Florida Lottery at nearly $49.7 million. In addition, November 28 was the biggest sales date for a single product with POWERBALL sales at $35.8 million. Sales topped a 22-year-old record of $30.2 million set when the FLORIDA LOTTO™ jackpot reached $100 million.
Florida Lottery sales for the week ending December 2, 2012, totaled $138.7 million, easily beating the previous record set for the week of September 10, 1990, of $131.4. POWERBALL and POWERBALL with POWERPLAY sales totaled $54.37 million, accounting for 39% of total sales for the week. Nearly all the Florida Lottery’s other products, including Scratch-Off games, showed week-to-week growth.
The Florida Lottery also broke its all-time sales record for the month of November. Sales for the month totaled $413.8 million, breaking a record set in November 2006 of $354.9 million.
“In our nearly 25 years of operations, the Florida Lottery has never seen a week like we saw last week,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell. “Floridians and visitors were caught up in POWERBALL fever, and that excitement clearly benefited the reason the Florida Lottery exists – to fund education programs. Based on the series of jackpot rollovers that started on October 6 and concluded on November 28, Florida Lottery POWEBALL sales generated nearly $58 million for the Education Enhancement Trust Fund.”
