CFO Atwater Offers ‘Paying for College: Controlling Your Degree of Debt’
Webinar Aims to Help Families Looking for College Financial Aid

TALLAHASSEE – As part of his Your Money Matter$ initiative, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced today that the Department of Financial Services is teaming up with the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (FASFAA) to offer a webinar entitled “Paying for College: Controlling Your Degree of Debt.” As financial aid application deadlines are fast approaching, this webinar will provide valuable information on the variety of financial aid programs that can minimize college debt.

“Affordability of a quality education is of critical importance to the young citizens of the state and the well-being of our economy,” CFO Atwater said. “As these young adults look toward their future, we want to provide them with all of the resources available to ensure their success.”

FASFAA is a statewide association that represents institutions of all sizes and types from proprietary schools to large universities. Nathan Basford, who has served as the association president for three terms, said, “FASFAA is happy to be a partner in this endeavor to help our future students. As financial aid professionals, we exist to help students and parents achieve their educational dreams.”

Bill Spiers, Director of Financial Aid at Tallahassee Community College and past president of FASFAA, is presenting the seminar and said, “Education beyond high school is imperative and we must make sure every family understands what they need to do to open the doors of opportunity available in this process.”

The webinar will be offered at 1:00 p.m. on Dec. 11th, at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 13th, and at 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 18th. The focus of the session is to learn about the variety of financial aid programs available, how financial need is determined, how to calculate the true cost of education and how to complete all the steps in the financial aid application process.
