Former Ormond Beach Police Officer arrested for obtaining a controlled substance by fraud

Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Orlando Regional Operations Center Daytona Beach Field Office arrested Mathew Karparis, 32, of Daytona Beach, Fla., for two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. Karparis is a former Ormond Beach Police Officer.

The investigation began in July of this year when FDLE received a complaint from the Ormond Beach Police Department that Karparis was allegedly attempting to obtain controlled substance by fraud.

According to investigators, they developed probable cause that Karparis had obtained prescriptions from numerous doctors in the Central Florida area.

Karparis resigned from his position at the Ormond Beach Police Department prior to the completion of the FDLE investigation.

Karparis was booked into the Volusia County Jail, and his bond was set at $1000.00.
