Governor Scott Appoints Michael Crews to Lead Department of Corrections

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Michael D. Crews as Secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) effective 12/17/2012. Crews will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Secretary Ken Tucker.

Crews has served as the deputy secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections since 2011 and has nearly 30 years of experience in corrections and law enforcement. From 1986 – 2011, Crews served with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in various capacities, including the director of the professionalism program, the chief of bureau standards and the director of Florida’s Criminal Justice Executive Institute/ Leadership Center. Crews began his career with DOC where he was a probation and parole officer from 1986 to 1987 and correctional officer from 1984 to 1986.

Governor Scott said, “Throughout Michael’s impressive career, he has demonstrated an excellent understanding of law enforcement and a willingness to serve the citizens of Florida. I am confident Michael will lead the Department of Corrections with integrity, leadership, and with an understanding of our ultimate goal to keep Floridians safe.”

“I am thankful for Secretary Tucker’s service. He humbly served our state for more than 25 years and his commitment and leadership will be missed.”
