Statement by: Thomas Spulak, Chairman of the Claude Pepper Foundation
Re: In response to Senator Bill Nelson being named Chairman of Senate Special Committee on Aging

“The Claude Pepper Foundation wishes to congratulate Florida Senator Bill Nelson for his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. Florida has more than three million residents over the age of 65 — the highest proportion of senior citizens of any state in the country. Sen. Nelson was a friend of Claude Pepper, and he will be a friend to Florida’s seniors as well.

“Sen. Nelson follows in the footsteps of prominent Floridians who were champions for the elderly including Congressman Claude Pepper, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Aging from 1977-1983, and Lawton Chiles, who served as Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging from 1979-1980.”
