DBPR ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE DAYS AT THE FLORIDA CAPITOL
~ State licensing agency will be available to answer questions, help customers apply for licenses during Legislative Session ~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Secretary Ken Lawson of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation today announced the Department is hosting its second annual CustomerAssist program that will feature a help desk at the Florida Capitol for nine days during the 2013 Legislative Session. Department staff representing specific businesses and professions will be available to customers at the Florida Capitol over the course of four weeks. The staff will be able to offer direct assistance to individuals who are applying for a business or professional license from the Department.

“The process of applying for and receiving a license should be easy and efficient for those who are qualified,” said Secretary Ken Lawson. “This is a great way for the Department to provide direct access to our customers so we may assist in getting them back to work.”

The initiative was developed to provide customers who may need assistance with license applications with a direct and personal point of access to the Department, which licenses more than one million businesses and professionals in Florida. Staff for specific businesses and professions will be available on specific days, and the Department encourages customers, license holders and applicants to visit the CustomerAssist table at the Florida Capitol to receive specialized assistance.

The following businesses and professions will be represented from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 4pm on the Plaza level of the Florida Capitol on the following dates:

-March 5: Regulation
-March 6: Construction
-March 7: Cosmetology
-April 17: Hotels and Restaurants
-April 18: Real Estate
-April 24: Condominiums and Cooperatives/Regulation
-April 25: Construction
-May 1: Cosmetology
-May 2: Hotels and Restaurants/Construction

The Central Intake Unit, which processes applications for the Department’s licenses, will also be available on March 6 and 7, April 18, April 25 and May 1 to answer questions about license application processes. Direct internet access to the Department will also be available so customers can check the status of their license applications online, file complaints and access additional department information.

The CustomerAssist program is just one of the many initiatives the Department has implemented so it may increase efficiency for its customers. In the recent months, DBPR has adopted the 2009 Food Code, held a Financial Crimes Conference for Real Estate professionals and completed the ApplyNow! project which streamlined the applications for 19 professions that the Department regulates making it easier for qualified professionals to obtain licensure.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The Department licenses and regulates more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from hotels and restaurants, real estate agents and certified public accountants to veterinarians, contractors and cosmetologists.
