Florida TaxWatch Applauds Senators Ring, Clemens, and Smith for Wind Risk Pool Recommendation

TALLAHASSEE – Today Senator Ring, Senator Clemens and Senate Minority Leader Chris L. Smith held a press conference on property insurance rates in Florida. The Senators are calling on Governor Scott to initiate talks with fellow Governors to explore the possibilities of sharing wind risk for states at risk of hurricanes.

“Florida TaxWatch applauds the attempt to reduce the risk of potentially punishing assessments on Florida taxpayers and business owners,”
said Dominic M. Calabro, President & CEO of Florida TaxWatch. “TaxWatch looks forward to quantitatively analyzing the economic impact of any potential compacts with other states.”

Florida TaxWatch has analyzed both the risk to Florida taxpayers as well as the concentration of risk in Citizens’ Property Insurance Corporation with Risk & Reform and Reducing the Concentration of Risk. In these Reports, it is shown that the transfer of risk to entities outside Florida can counteract the concentration of risk and subsequent high costs that currently exist in our State.
