Weekly Radio Address, February 22, 2013

Hi, I’m Governor Rick Scott.

I ran for Governor because I wanted to provide each and every Floridian with the opportunity to find a job and pursue their American dream.

That is why my recommended budget, Florida Families First, makes targeted investments to connect Florida families to opportunities.

Last week, I announced that I am recommending $36 million dollars to move people from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities – or A-P-D – waiting list, to the developmental disabilities Medicaid waiver. This means that hundreds families who need support will get it.

Included in this plan is $2.5 million dollars to provide job coaches and job internships to people with disabilities. We need to help those with disabilities to find and keep jobs. Through this investment, A-P-D expects we’ll better position 1,000 individuals to find jobs.

1,000 people like Zachary Brown – a 45 year-old with cerebral palsy who got a job at Hialeah Senior High School because of the training he received from a work support program. Zachary is working as a cashier and has been employed at the high school’s cafeteria for seven years now.

With targeted investments, people are able to improve their lives and be more independent like Zachary.

That is why my Florida Families First budget is focused on creating more jobs and more opportunities for the families who call Florida home.
