Statement by Rep. Mia L. Jones Regarding the House Select Committee on PPACA’s recommendations on Medicaid Expansion

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – State Representative Mia L. Jones (D-Jacksonville), the House Democratic Leader Pro Tempore, today released the following statement regarding the House Select Committee on PPACA’s (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) recommendations on Medicaid expansion.

“I am deeply disappointed that the Select Committee refused to recommend an extension of Medicaid coverage to Florida’s most vulnerable. A volume of testimony and evidence supports Medicaid expansion, and it is simply nonsensical for the Select Committee to take a partisan vote in opposition to providing necessary health coverage. I remain hopeful that today’s vote will not be the ultimate outcome on this issue by the Florida Legislature.”

Representative Jones serves Florida House District 14. She also is the Democratic Ranking Member on the House Health & Human Services Committee.
