STATEMENT FROM CHAIR NEGRON REGARDING THE WORK OF THE SENATE PPACA SELECT COMMITTEE

Tallahassee — Senator Joe Negron (R-Stuart), Chair of the Senate Select Committee on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), today released the following statement regarding the Select Committee’s ongoing review of Florida’s options under PPACA.

“This morning, Senators heard a presentation from the state economist who designed and ran a comprehensive and Florida-specific model on the impacts of Medicaid expansion. We also heard a presentation from the National Center for Policy Analysis that looks at health system and economic effects of PPACA requirements.

“The Medicaid issue is critically important and whether Senators support or oppose expansion, the choice comes with far reaching consequences for individuals, health care providers, and the entire state. As such, I have asked President Gaetz for additional meeting time during which the Senate Select Committee on PPACA will have an extended opportunity to discuss the many issues and extensive information provided during the Select Committee’s meetings.

“The additional time between today and our next meeting will allow Senators to review and study these important issues to ensure that our final decisions and recommendations receive the thoughtful and careful consideration they deserve.”
