TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Government Technology magazine and the Center for Digital Government recently named the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Director of Cyber Security, Mike Russo, on its list of Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers of 2013. The annual Top 25 list acknowledges the hard work and innovative ideas that make our communities safer, more successful and better places to live. Government Technology features the announcement, along with a feature on Russo, on its website at http://www.govtech.com/top-25/.
“The Department is pleased to see Mike Russo recognized at a national level for the innovative work he has done for Florida’s law enforcement community and state government,” said DHSMV Executive Director Julie Jones. “The need for governments to enhance cyber security is growing by the day as thieves and fraudsters use more advanced techniques.”
As DHSMV’s Director of Cyber Security, Russo is responsible for developing and guiding the cyber security strategy for the Department. Before coming to DHSMV in 2012, he spent 10 years creating and delivering the state’s cyber security policy and strategy as Florida’s first Chief Information Security Officer.
Russo has been employed in state government for more than 38 years, working for the Auditor General, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the State Technology Office, the Department of Management Services, the Agency for Enterprise Information Technology and currently DHSMV. He is a member of the North Florida Domestic Security Task Force and a member of the Board of Directors of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center. Mike is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, a Certified Project Management Professional, a Certified Information Systems Auditor and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
