On Thursday, March 7, 2013, former Florida Supreme Court Justice and former Florida Senator Frederick B. Karl passed away. Mr. Karl served on the Florida Supreme Court from 1977 to 1978, was a member of the Florida Senate from 1968 to 1971, and was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1956 to 1964. He also served as Hillsborough County Attorney and as County Administrator. In addition, Mr. Karl served as president of Tampa General Hospital and served as Tampa City Attorney. Mr. Karl earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star for his service to our country at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. As a mark of respect for the memory of Fredrick Karl, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the County Courthouse of Hillsborough County, Florida, the City Hall of Tampa, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Friday, March 15, 2013.
