Controlled Substances Bill Passes House Judiciary Committee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the Controlled Substances Bill, House Bill 619, in the House Judiciary Committee. This legislation adds 27 additional substances to Schedule I of controlled substances, making it a third-degree felony for an individual to “sell, manufacture, or deliver, or possess with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver” these dangerous drugs. House Bill 619 is sponsored by Representative Clay Ingram. The Senate Companion, Senate Bill 294 is sponsored by Senator Rob Bradley.

“This legislation is critical in addressing Florida’s synthetic drug problem, especially among the 12-29 year old age group who make up 75 percent of synthetic drug-related emergency room visits,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I thank Representative Ingram and the House Judiciary Committee for joining me in supporting legislation that will remove these dangerous synthetic drugs from store shelves.”
