Statement by House Speaker Will Weatherford Regarding Budget Allocations for Education

Tallahassee, FL – Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford (R-Wesley Chapel) today released the following statement regarding budget allocations for education.

“The House has allocated $1 billion toward K-12 education, which is a significant increase as compared to the last few years. Neither the House nor Senate has rolled out any specific language on how that money will be spent. One thing we know for sure is that Florida’s Constitution does not allow the Legislature or the Governor to set individual teacher salaries. The House remains consistent that when we begin the conversation about teacher pay, we should also include discussion on the importance of merit pay. Our students deserve high quality teachers.”
