State Representative Jared Moskowitz Calls for Release of Robert Levinson from Captivity in Iran
On March 8, 2007, Robert Levinson, a Coral Springs resident and public servant of 30 years with the FBI and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, was captured in Iran. His period of captivity is one of the longest in the history of Americans held hostage.
The House Local & Federal Affairs Committee has unanimously approved House Memorial 1405, sponsored by Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-Coral Springs), which calls on the federal government to act on moral obligations to utilize all available resources to bring Robert Levinson home to the United States and his family.
Representative Moskowitz issued these remarks: “I call upon the nation of Iran to release Robert Levinson so he may return to his family safely. Mr. Levinson has been held against his will, missing out on six years of his life and the ability to watch his children grow. I want to thank the members of the House Local & Federal Affairs Committee for unanimously supporting House Memorial 1405. The Florida Legislature should demand from Congress and the President of the United States the safe return of one of our own, an American, Floridian, and a noble public servant.”
House Memorial 1405 now moves to the House Economic Affairs Committee for further consideration. Representative Moskowitz serves Florida House District 97, which includes Coral Springs, Tamarac, Sunrise and Plantation.
