On this week’s “Florida NewsMakers” program, Citizens Property Insurance Corp. President and CEO Barry Gilway sits down with Sachs Media Group’s Alia Faraj-Johnson to discuss ongoing efforts to reform and shrink what used to be Florida’s “insurer of last resort.”

With Tropical Storm Andrea’s arrival in Florida during the opening days of Hurricane Season, the state’s largest property insurer is confident it’s ready for whatever nature may bring. “I think the message is a good one. Clearly Citizens has never been in better shape,” Gilway tells Faraj-Johnson. But the company’s ultimate goal is to significantly reduce the 1.3 million policies currently on its rosters. “The goal basically is to give policyholders more options,” Gilway says. “Because right now the only option they have is Citizens and we do not have the best coverage in the marketplace. We don’t have competitive coverage.” Gilway addresses those issues and more on “Florida NewsMakers.”
