Cocoa – Motorists need to be on the look-out for an overnight intersection closure at US 1 and Michigan Avenue starting Sunday, August 25 through Wednesday, August 28. The contractor is closing the intersection to install underground drainage between the hours of 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. This is impacting through-traffic on Michigan Avenue, but drivers are still able to make right turns at the light at Michigan Avenue onto US 1. No major delays are expected for northbound and southbound US 1 traffic.
This pipe installation is part of a major construction project on US 1 (SR 5) from north of Pine Street to north of Cidco Road in Cocoa, and involves widening US 1 from four lanes to six lanes. The project began earlier this year, is estimated to cost approximately $29 million, with scheduled completion in the spring of 2016.
