ABOUT: The conference will address the need for Florida’s legislature to act now to accept the $51 billion in federal money for Medicaid expansion, which House members rejected last session, depriving nearly 1 million of the state’s most vulnerable citizens of affordable healthcare. The inaction on the part of Florida lawmakers also delayed the opportunity to create as many as 120,000 jobs. In anticipation of Florida legislators’ return to Tallahassee for committee meetings in the coming weeks, the news conference will feature speakers from the business and healthcare industries, as well as community advocates, who have all come together to emphasize the health and economic benefits of expanded access to Medicaid and to call on Florida’s elected officials to accept the federal money for the expansion promptly.
NOTE: Following the event, the League will host a brief, follow-up media conference call at 12:15 p.m to summarize the news conference for members of the press who were unable to attend. To participate, please call 605-475-4875, and use access code 643895#.
