Traffic Advisory: US 17/92 Closure Tomorrow Morning
For Tree Removal
DeLand – Motorists traveling US 17/92 on the south of side of DeLand Sunday morning will encounter lane closures as crews take down a large, historic oak tree that was hit by lightning in August. The closures will occur around 7 a.m. The large oak is in the median/the middle of US 17/92 and its branches extend over most of the lanes near the intersection of Dodge Avenue.
The closures will last only as long as necessary to cut away branches and bring down the tree. Lanes will be reopened gradually once there is safe distance between where the work is occurring and where vehicles travel.
A circumference section of the tree will be cut and given to the City of DeLand for historical purposes. It’s believed the tree is 200-300 years old.
